Our galleries and exhibits go beyond historical facts to illustrate how the people of Evansville sacrificed at home and abroad in service to the nation during its conflicts. Through captivating testimonials, firsthand artifacts, and compelling displays, the Evansville Wartime Museum tells how Evansville and its citizens have contributed to the nation’s greatest accomplishments.

The Homefront Gallery chronicles the dramatic changes Evansville experienced during World War II and honors the service of the men and women who sacrificed at home while others were away. Exhibits tell the stories of the companies that powered the Allies to victory, the war-winning innovations produced in Evansville, and the daily lives of average Evansville families.

The Community Gallery depicts the efforts of the Evansville community to bring a sense of home and comfort to millions of servicemen and women. Step back into the Red Cross Canteen that served over one million soldiers and the USOs that provided a break from the stresses of wartime service.

The World War II Honor Gallery features rotating displays dedicated to the combat service of Evansville men and women. Learn about their wartime experiences above the skies of Germany and in the jungles of Burma.

The Rechnic Family Holocaust Exhibit is an inspirational story of survival, helping all ages understand “Never Forget, Never Again”. Be moved by the Rechnic family’s perseverance during the horrors of the Holocaust and later achievement of the American dream.

The World War I Honor Gallery pays tribute to the soldiers who endured and sacrificed in the trenches. Learn about the battles in which Evansville’s Doughboys fought and the story of the first American soldier killed in the war.

The Korean and Vietnam War Galleries reveal the hardship of the foreign wars in which Americans fought. Examine how warfare changed, enemies adapted, and Evansville companies’ contributions sustained American soldiers.

Experience firsthand the P-47 Thunderbolt, one of the airplanes responsible for the Allied victory in World War II. Nicknamed the “Jug”, learn how this fighter manufactured in Evansville at Republic Aviation was beloved by pilots and soldiers alike. Renowned for its ability to win battles both in the air and on the ground, the museum’s operating P-47 Hoosier Spirit II is a powerful symbol of victory.

Get up close and discover the intimidating power of the M4 Sherman tank, one of the most iconic and manufactured tanks in history. Learn how the Sherman’s adaptability made it effective against larger tanks and see how crews operated in its tight quarters.
